The 21st stop of SME Toolkit Road Show was welcomed by the legendary city of Calamba and managed to accommodate 44 small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) at RSM Lutong-Bahay, Bacnotan’s pavilion on Thursday, June 26.

Calamba, the birthplace of the country’s national hero, José Rizal provided doors of SMEs’ future successes in the said area, which takes pride in being a tourist destination with hot spring resorts, most of which are located in Barangay Pansol, the Canlubang Golf and Country Club as well as an industrial center in the CALABARZON region.

Despite the sudden downpour when the event started, still it did not hinder Planters Development Bank (PDB) family along with SME.com.ph’s two technology partners, Globe Telecom and IBM Philippines to give their full support.

Roberto Buhain, Plantersbank’s executive vice president assured SMEs in the said cluster that banking with PDB is strong enough to back them up with their ventures.

“PDB is considered to be the largest privately-owned and managed bank in the country with total assets of P43 Billion; offering banking products and services that upholds the SME sector.

We are in fact, ranked as the 19th largest bank in the Philippines out of 39 commercial and universal banks,” Buhain prides in the bank’s achievements.

With that word, PDB is the ideal bank to transact with and acquiring additional services and business solutions offered by its affiliate, SME.com.ph is of quality and considered to be an authority in the field.

Since PDB envisioned itself to become a world-class bank and remain a model SME bank not just in the country, but also in the Asian region—it partnered with International Finance Corporation in creating SME.com.ph that runs this year’s 12-series of road shows.

“Through these road shows, we aim to address the SMEs’ growing needs to utilize the latest in technology,” SME.com.phpresident Adonis Yap shares.

“Technology like the Internet is a great leveler. The small businesses can already compete with the giants,” affirms Steven Tambunting, Plantersbank’s assistant vice president and SME.com.ph’s managing director.

Incorporated in the road shows are the business solutions offered by two of the country’s technology giants, Globe Telecom and IBM Philippines, which is a clear indication of technology’s upward trend in SMEs efforts to grow their respective ventures through accessibility.

Globe Telecom represented by Analyn Oracion, territory manager for Laguna and Cavite talked about I-café Kit and Lysander Guevarra, Wireless territory manager for Laguna area discussed about SME Mobility Bundle.

Meanwhile, IBM Philippines represented by its territory manager Raymond Guevarra stressed that the company also saw the need to help SMEs in the country, which made to join forces with SME.com.ph and Globe Telecom in this road show.

“IBM Philippines saw the potentials of SMEs to succeed as global companies and we feel, we have this responsibility to help them become e-businesses, too,” Guevarra relates IBM’s vision.

IBM’s value partner, Alliance End-to-End Solutions, represented by its brand manager, Pepin Ordoña introduced the company’s capability of being an IT arm for SMEs.

Ordoña extends his invitation to SMEs that Alliance End-to-End can be an IT arm, “We offer implementation and service support, IT consultation, development capability due to the number of software engineers we have—they are all 150 software engineers.”

Given all these road show offering, the probability of Filipino SMEs to succeed and compete with other global companies. The incorporation of business solutions will further enhance and expand opportunities for the said sector to become e-businesses is huge.

Come July 24, the 22nd SME Toolkit Road Show visits Lipa, Batangas.
