Email Marketing Tips

Email - We all love it and hate it. It's going to be a very important part of our online businesses so we need to understand some of the basic rules of email marketing.

  1. We all know that a smile or gesture can many times break the ice when meeting associates in person and the tone of your voice can set the stage over the phone. When marketing with email, you only have your words to get your message across. Therefore, you must choose your words wisely! Many a misunderstanding has occurred from the way an email message was read.


  2. Make sure your message is as clear and concise as possible. Proofread and spell check every message.


  3. Whenever you possibly can, use the recipient's name in the greeting of the message and in the body as well, if it is a long message.


  4. Always answer incoming messages within 24 to 48 hours. With all this lightning fast technology, potential clients expect a lightning fast reply.

  5. Format your messages so any email reader can read it. No HTML, columns, etc. Hit a manual return at the end of each line (approx 65 characters per line). Also quote any pertinent information when replying.


  6. Show your interest in your potential client by referencing their url, ezine, or other identifying factors. Let them know that you are genuinely interested in doing business with them.


  7. Write as if the person you are corresponding to is sitting right in front of you. Give your message a little personality.


  8. Start building your email list NOW! When handled correctly, your email list can be a goldmine!

These may seem like trivial points, but they can be a very crucial part of your business. It is very easy to forget we are communicating with live human beings and not a computer screen.
