Gensan’s champ in socialized housing

General Santos City (Gensan), also popularly known as the tuna capital of the Philippines and home of world's two boxing champions Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr, is also the home to vibrant and progressive companies such as Gensan VSM Realty Corporation.

Gensan VSM Realty Corporation, founded by the husband and wife tandem of Victorio and Elizabeth Sexcion is one of the superstars of Gensan's real estate industry. It was formed in 1996 as a single proprietorship until 2008. Also, in 2008 VSM Gensan was incorporated.

A 24x7 security is one of the services provided by Gensan VSM Realty Corp to its buyers.

Children are assured of a spacious playground in any project done by Gensan VSM Realty.

Furthermore, the company has been able to establish a solid reputation by winning the 2003 Kabalikat sa Pabahay Awards as the Outstanding Developer in Mindanao (small developers category) and the leading developer for socialized housing in Mindanao in 2007. “We have a found a very good niche in the socialized housing category, said Mrs. Sexcion, who is also the accountant of Gensan VSM.”

Although they cater to the socialized housing market, VSM Gensan’s projects connote quality and fine craftsmanship that will enable the buyers to get the money’s worth of their investment. The commitment to deliver the promises to the buyers has endeared the company to the buyers mostly from the overseas Filipino workers and members of Pag-IBIG.

A typical project of Gensan VSM Realty Corporation will have a concrete circumferential roads and secondary roads, open park and full size basketball court, playground, electricity, water and security. “We want to prove that VSM Gensan is capable of delivering quality services at affordable prices to the clients,” said Mrs. Sexcion.

The Sexcion couple also encountered rough sailing during the early years of the business when their then developer left them in the middle of their project resulting in a huge debt for the company. But this did not discourage the Sexcion couple to carry on in building the business. Through guts, perseverance and courage, they prevailed over a seemingly insurmountable problem.

Issabella Homes Subdivision is the latest amongst the number of projects developed by Gensan VSM Located in a sprawling 100,000 square meter land situated in Purok Matatag, Brgy. San Isidro, General Santos City, the project will have 578 house and lot units. The project. which started in February 2009, is 35 percent complete.

Gensan VSM will also develop a 12-hectare project called VSM Heights in General Santos city. The project is near the Notre Dame Siena College.

Earlier, Gensan VSM also completed the Malesido Homes I, II, III-A and B and a two-hectare project called VS Homes.

Having a husband who is former general contractor in Maguindanao has helped a lot in checking the nittty-gritty details of construction, according to Mrs. Sexcion.

Looking back, Mrs. Sexcion and hubby have learned their lesson from the bitter experience by appraising the people more carefully in their business dealings. “We learn to forget the experience and moved on,” said Mrs. Sexcion.

Asked about their formula for success, Mrs. Sexcion said it’s just work, and dedication to the business. “My husband exemplifies that by working from 6 am to 6 pm,’ she said.
