
Software as a service (SaaS) is a welcome development for small to medium enterprises (SMEs). It is a model of software deployment in which a provider gives a license to an application to customers for use as a service on demand.
Winston Damarillo, executive chairman of Cebu-based Morph Labs, said the main advantage of open source-centric SaaS is that it permits organizations to use software made available from a centralized host facility over the Internet through a standard web browser setup removes the cumbersome process for software customers to buy, install, maintain and upgrade software applications and some hardware requirements such as data storage and server systems needed to run their software applications in their businesses.
